TV: Past and present

I'm a TV watcher. I know that's sometimes a dirty thing to admit, but bear with me here.

My all time favorite show in high school (or at least one of them) was Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Yes, it was based off a terrible movie, but the TV show was so much better. Like Friday Night Lights, and Nikita, which I'll get into below.

I've noticed that although Buffy is long gone, I'm watching new shows now that have some similarities:

Fairy tales are making a come back on TV in a major way! I'm a big fables and tales nerd, so I couldn't be happier. I watched the first season on Hulu this summer and am HOOKED. (Also see Once Upon a Time for another show with a modern twist to the classic fairytale.)

Buffy similarity: A scooby gang full unlikely heroes solve crimes and spooky unexplainable happenings in their town (Portland, OR). It's a show that doesn't take itself too seriously and has good comic relief a la Monre who apparently is a favorite of the show.

A formed drug addict turned trainer killer by a secret government agency, who has gone rogue.

Buffy similarity: A strong female lead, who kicks some major butt along with her own scooby gang. She tries to do what is right yet admittedly has a darker side to her she tries to overcome. She also trains protegees to help her fight bad guys.

I can't stop thinking about the Togarashi Popcorn at the Almebic!

Their food was ok, drinks were great, but what did it for me was this popcorn and their cheesecake dessert in the cutest little mason type jar. Actually I was awed by the little jar the bill came in also. Matt laughed at me, but this is on my list of things to recreate along with a cheesecake in a jar!

NOTE: Togarashi popcorn is basically Japanese rice seasoning (furikake) with some special salt I forget...

I have also been mixing full fat Greek yogurt with lemon curd (with these old world thin triple ginger cookies) and the results have been amazing! Very similar richness to cheesecake in a jar, but the consistency is not totally the same.
